The last day of my trip was both the fastest (avg. spd. of 12.4 mph) and the longest (115 miles). I was in such good spirits and couldn't wait to get to the end of the road and get a big hug from Gretchen (though I was smelling rather sour!). My fastest speed achieved (37 mph!) was on September 28 on US Hwy 6 heading East right before deserted Warm Springs at the intersection of Nevada Hwy 375 (The Extraterrestial Highway!). The asphalt was new and smooth, and there was zero traffic! This was also my longest day (time-wise) with a total riding time of 11 hours 38 minutes. Once hitting The Extraterrestial Hwy at Warm Springs, the road conditions weren't the best and after the highway turned South, there was quite a head wind. I pulled into Rachel just after dark and did have to mount my blinking lights the last half hour or so of the day. The friendly WalMart truckdriver I chatted with at The Little A'LE'INN said he had just barely seen me as we were both coming over the pass about 10 miles before Rachel. Yikes!
